The aim of the project
Nordic Eco Stitches is a Nordplus Junior cooperation project bringing together vocational education providers from Lithuania, Finland, Iceland and Norway. The project strengthens young people’s competences in the textile and sewing field by combining three cross-cutting priorities—sustainability, digitalisation, and inclusion—and by actively valuing the cultural heritage of Nordic and Baltic textile traditions.
The project responds to two urgent challenges in VET: the environmental impact of the textile sector and the need to ensure equal learning opportunities for all learners. At the same time, it recognises that textile crafts carry local identity and heritage. By linking eco-friendly practices with traditional techniques, the project motivates learners through meaningful, culture-based learning and supports pride in regional craftsmanship.
How the project is carried out?
Core activities include cross-border collaboration among teachers and learners, exchange of good practices, and co-creation of learning resources. Students will work with reused and recycled garments and materials to design and produce a joint sustainable textile collection, inspired by elements of each country’s cultural heritage (e.g., local patterns, colours, weaving/knitting or craft motifs, traditional repairs and mending practices).
Teachers will develop and test inclusive learning approaches to ensure activities are accessible and engaging for diverse learner groups. Digital elements will be embedded throughout the project, including the production of short educational videos and other digital content documenting processes, techniques, and stories behind the designs. The project will deliver tangible outputs: a student-created sustainable collection, reusable teaching materials (including videos), and a digital online portfolio.
Results will be shared through partner websites, social media, local exhibitions, and VET networks, strengthening long-term cooperation and promoting greener, more inclusive, and culturally rich vocational education across the Nordic-Baltic region.
